“I’m Where I Want To Be”

(This poem was written in memory of Martin, who took his own life in November 2003)

I’ve left you all with heavy hearts and tears because of me,

But please, one thing I ask of you now I’m not there to see,

Remember all the good and happy times that came our way,

Forget your sadness, dry your tears, and now please let me say,

I’m where I want to be.

No one can truly understand what went on in my mind,

No one can truly understand the thing I'd sought to find,

I gave my life to gain the very thing that I’d longed for,

And I alone decided on my life I’d close the door,

I’m where I want to be.

Your love for me is precious; keep it constant come what may,

Still feel the love I have for you in every single day,

I don’t ask for forgiveness, but that love should be kept strong,

I made my choice and now I’m here, my choice it was not wrong,

I’m where I want to be.

So come to understand me and accept this that has been,

Remember I am with you even though I am not seen,

If you feel low in spirit for this thing I chose to do,

Remember, read these words again, again I say to you,

"I’m where I want to be".
