'I Have to Be Me'

I am what I am, I am what you see,

I know what I need, I need to be me,

I can't change my needs so that they would please you,

I need to be me, and this I will do,

If there is a way that our two lives can be

Along the same lines, there would be harmony,

But if there's a difference in what we strive for,

I'll have to do my thing, of this I am sure,

My life has a purpose for me to fulfil,

I need to be able to do what I will,

If my pathway is different to that which you take,

I'll follow my path and a new life I'll make,

I do not expect you to do as I do,

But simply, like me, to your own self be true,

For this is my life, and it's all that I've got,

And I feel in my life, to achieve there's a lot,

And to do it there's only one thing I can be,

That's true to myself - I have to be Me.
